Falmouth Lib Dems campaign for a better bus service to Treliske
Famouth Lib Dems have launched a petition calling for a more frequent, direct bus service from Falmouth to Treliske hospital in Truro.
Currently there is just one bus per day which goes direct to Treliske without having to change in Truro, and this leaves at 7am - far too early to be convenient to the majority of hospital users.
The Lib Dems wrote to the chief executive of First bus group explaining that sick or elderly people really struggle to change buses in Truro and calling for a more frequent service.
So far FIRST have refused to help, but not taking no for an answer, local Falmouth councillor Mathew McCarthy and Jeff Muir, the Lib Dem Community Organiser for Smithick have launched a joint petition calling for the improved service.
Mathew said: "It's a real pity First have refused to consider improving the service. Several local residents have complained to me that the service as it stands is next to useless. Hopefully, if we can get enough people to sign up we will be able to change their minds."
Jeff Muir said: "Many local people are dependent on the buses to get them to the hospital. It can't be easy for the sick and elderly to have to switch buses in Truro, particularl if they are not very mobile. Even if there was just one extra bus that ran mid morning it would be a real help to some of the most vulnerable people in our communtity."
Both Mathew and Jeff are currently going door to door with petition but if you would like to support the campaign by signing the petition online you can do so by visiting the webpage trurofalmouth-libdems.org.uk/treliske
